Kathmandu Durbar Square
Located at the heart of the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu Durbar square is one of the three famous Durbar Squares of Kathmandu valley with rich collection of Nepalese art and craft.Kathmandu Durbar Square is listed as the UNESCO world heritage. Best known for its spectacular architecture and showcases, the skill of Nepalese artists and craftsman over several centuries, Kathmandu Durbar Square is one of the main centre of tourist attraction.The Kathmandu Durbar Square holds the palaces of the Malla and Shah kings who ruled over the city before unification of Nepal from small states to greater Nepal. The monuments in the Kathmandu Durbar Square dates back to 14th century.

Kathmandu Durbar Square is Home to lots of ancient monuments and buildings. The main attraction of Durbar square is Hanuman Dhoka Royal Palace. Hanuman Dhoka git its name from the statue of monkey god "Hanuman" at the entrance of the palace. This palace is build in the mid 16th century by King Mahendra Malla and the malla kings of Kathmandu valley resided in this palace untilthe end of 19th century. Southern end of the Kathmandu Durbar Square lies Kumari Chowk, where living goddess of Nepal, Kumari resides. Manju Deval temple lies just behind Kumari Chowk. The triple Storied temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva and was constructed in 1692.The temple such as Shwet bhairab, Kastamandap are also famous. According to the legend Kastamandap was build using wood from a single tree. Literally meaning the Dancing courtyard, The Nasal Chowk or courtyard is dedicated to Lord Shiva where a big statue of Natraj is placed on the east side of courtyard. Mulchowk is dedicated to Taleju Bhawani which was regarded as main deity of the Royal Malla family.It stills hold strong presence among the people after centuries also.
